NOAA compiles and prints the official nautical charts for the U.S. Vital information on these large format maps changes weekly but offset printing does not economically allow printing this often. NOAA has developed technology related to print-on-demand (POD) and would like to have this method available to produce charts that are up-to-date at the time of printing. Pursuant to the Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986 (as amended) a partner is being sought to perform, at their own risk and expense, further research and development on this technology and then to commercialize it for use in POD facilities and to publish the NOAA nautical charts. Firms interested in being considered are required to identify themselves and to submit all requested documentation to the contact point within 30 days after the date of this announcement.
