COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 20,1999 PSA#2458National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSAS, 6120
Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 66 -- INSTRUMENTS & LABORATORY EQUIPMENT SOL RFQ-NCI-00012 DUE 110999
POC Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, 301-402-4509, Todd Cole,
Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI),
Extracellular Matrix Pathology Section intends to procure on a
sole-source basis with Amersham Pharmacia, 33148 Treasury Center,
Chicago, ILL 60694 under the authority of 41.U.S.C. 253(c)(1), FAR
6.3201- to procure an AKTA Explorer 100A/FRAC-901 Fraction collector
and Compaq Deskpro 450MHZ w/Zip Drive. The NCI believes that the
aforementioned instrument and organization is the only source that can
satisfy their requirement. The AKTA Explorer System must be able to
perform the following: ability to purify biomolecules from complex
starting materials derived from cell lysates, tissue homogenates,
recombinant protein expression systems and other sources. The system
shall be able to perform separations based on a variety of sample
characteristics, such as molecular weight, net surface charge,
hydrophobicity, while retaining biological activity. It shall also
provide the capabilities of precess development, analysis and scale-up.
imaging systems shall have the following features. Specific features
required: 1)a P-901 two-pump system than can provide a flow rate range
of 0.01 to 100 ml/min and a pressure range from 0-10 Mpa (1450PSI);
2)two switch valves that allow for accurate, automatic buffer
preparation called BufferPrep; 3)a M-925 single chamber mixer powered
and controlled from the P-901 pump. Interchangeable mixing chambers of
0.6 and 2ml.;4)ph/C-900 monitor that measures in-line conductivity,
temperature and pH, to allow for auto ranging between any two
ionic-strength buffers with a conductivity range of luS/cm to 999mS/cm
and a PH range 0-14 with plus or minus 0.1 pH unit accuracy,
temperature compensated; 5)contain two on-line air sensors to assure
that air is not pumped onto the columns in the event the buffers are
depleted; 6) a seven port INV-907 injection valve with load, inject and
wash positions; 7)two eight port PV-908 motorized valves to accommodate
up to seven columns, plus one column bypass, automated reverse-flow
capability for elution of samples from affinity columns; 8)a FRAC-901
fraction collector to allow fixed volume fractionation or automatic
peak fractionation; 9)the systems controller and software must be able
to monitor three pumps, six motorized valves, a fraction collector, a
dynamic gradient mixer, a chart recorder, UV monitor and
conductivity/pH monitor. All equipment/software delivered must be Year
2000 compliant. This is not a request for competitive quotation,
however, if any interested party believes it can meet the above
requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. Information
furnished must be in writing and must contain sufficient detail, to
allow NCI to determine if the party can meet the requirement.
Capability statements must be received in the Contracts Office by 2:00
P.M. EST on 11/9/99. If you have any questions, please contact Cynthia
Brown, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the
Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses
to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of
determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted
