Institution is seeking proposals to furnish all necessary labor,
materials, equipment and supervision required for the Demolition of
Halls 13, 14 15 and 16 and new construction at the National Museum of
Natural History, 10th and Constitution Avenue, Washington, D.C. All
work shall be performed in strict accordance as set forth on Drawings
and Specifications dated September 3, 1999 for Office of Physical Plant
(OPP) Project No. 933109A. This project shall include, but not be
limited to: (i) selective demolition, including demolition of interior
partitions, doors, louvers, ceiling, a mezzanine, catwalks, stairs,
equipment, piping, sprinkler system, ductwork, electrical systems, and
conduit; (ii) asbestos and lead abatement; (iii) temporary protective
structures; (iv) interior finishes; (v) HVAC; (vi) electrical,
plumbing, and fire protection; (vii) weather and security protection of
existing building; and (viii) project phasing. Offerors shall be
required to submit technical and price proposals. Offerors will be
evaluated on their plan of accomplishment and contract time for
completion, quality assurance, key personnel and subcontractors,
experience and past performance, and price. A preproposal site visit
shall be held prior to the date for receipt of offers. The date, time
and location for the preproposal site visit shall be in the Request For
Proposal (RFP) documents. The RFP documents shall be available on or
about November 9, 1999. Offerors shall obtain the RFP documents by
submitting a written request to Smithsonian Institution, Office Of
Contracting, 955 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Suite P-114, Washington, DC
20024-2119, Attn: Dottie Leffler. Written requests shall be on company
letterhead and contain complete company name, street address (PO boxes
will not receive responses), telephone/fax number, and the company
point of contact. If this information is not provided The Smithsonian
Institution accepts no responsibility for mishandled requests. Requests
may also be made to FAX 202-287-2008, Attn: Dottie Leffler. The
drawings and specifications must be obtained from Capital
Technigraphics Corporation, 1815 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington,
DC, 202-625-0250. The cost of the drawings and specifications shall be
borne by the Offeror and this cost is not refundable. Offers shall be
required to provide a bid guarantee of 20% of offer and the successful
Offeror must provide a performance bond of 100% and a payment bond of
50% of the proposed contract amount. No award will be made until
approved bonding is in place. The date and time for receipt of
proposals shall be in the RFP documents. The magnitude of construction
for this project is between $700,000.00 and $1,000,000.00. All
responsible Offerors may submit an offer which will be considered.
