kerry.cullerton@pnl.gov. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is
seeking expressions of interest from firms qualified to fabricate a
cart capable of holding and moving (short distance within a building)
the NAC-LWT (Legal Weight Truck) spent fuel transportation cask. The
cart will be designed by PNNL and will be used to accept the cask in a
horizontal position, move it on a set of rails to mate up with a hot
cell in the PNNL radiochemical processing laboratory (RPL) where the
contents will be removed and placed in the hot cell. The NAC-LWT cask
is essentially a right circular cylinder, approximately 200 inches in
length, 45 inches in diameter and weighs approximately 52,000 pounds.
The cask will be brought to the RPL by a transport vehicle
(truck/trailer) and will be lifted from the trailer by a mobile crane
to be provided by PNNL. The cask cart will be fabricated from
structural steel and must be capable of supporting the full cask weight
while moving to a position lined up with the hot cell. Cask movement to
the hot cell will be by a winch, which will be provided by PNNL. The
cart must have attachment points front and rear to allow it to be moved
to the hot cell and back to the trailer. Work to be performed by the
cask fabricator will not involve working in a radiation environment.
Interested parties should provide a letter of interest and capabilities
statement by U.S. mail, facsimile or e:mail to Ms. Kerry Cullerton at
