S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT WITH POLAR RESEARCH CENTER. Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Polar Research Center (the Center) for the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC). Purpose of contract is to determine the environmental influences of the early life stages of walleye pollock, Theragra chalcogramma, in the Southeastern Bering Sea during the late 1970s climate regime shift. Work will include 1) travel to Korea to organize project and receive training in pollock egg staging, larval length measurements, and CTD analysis; 2) determine stage of development of eggs and lengths of larvae from samples collectd by the AFSC during the years 1976-1979; 3) analyze egg stage and larval length data in relation to physical oceanographic parameters; and 4) produce report of results in a format suitable for publication in a scientific journal. Dr. Suan Kim of the Center will serve as principal investigator and has received his Ph.D. from the UW working on pollock recruitment in Alaskan waters. Dr. Kim has also published numerous papers on this subject and completed a preliminary analysis of the samples to be examined in this project.
