intends to procure a combined package of wireless cellular telephones
and airtime services, on a monthly price basis, to be primarily used
within the United States and Puerto Rico by SSA personnel. There will
be some international services required for use in Canada, Europe, and
Mexico. A minimum of 330 dual mode digital/analog portable or mobile
telephones, and associated accessories and airtime will be ordered for
the Baltimore/Washington area at time of award. As existing cellular
telephone contracts expire, an estimated 500 additional cellular
telephones may be ordered in the future for the rest of the United
States. At a minimum, the telephones must: Meet Cellular
Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) standards; Weight 7.5
ounces or less; Provide 90-minutes of continuous talk; and Include AC
and Car cigarette lighter chargers. Associated services must include:
Airtime for all phone users to make various types routine and emergency
calls; Call Forwarding; Call Waiting; Three Way Calling; Message Center
Answering; Call Roaming; User Security ID; and Caller ID. This
acquisition is being conducted utilizing Simplified Acquisition
Procedures under the Test Program for Certain Commercial Items. Written
requests for the associated solicitation RFQ-00-227 package should be
submitted within 10 calendar days from this publication date. The
approximate date for the RFQ release is 11/19/99. Posted 11/02/99
