The Social Security Administration (SSA) is requesting information on fibre channel switch (switched fabric topology) products that would enhance the interconnectivity of servers and storage devices in it's Open Systems environment and that would allow creation of Storage Area Network strategies. Products must be compatible with SSA's existing environment, and all information submitted in response to this notice must address that capability. SSA's Open Systems environment includes the following devices: EMC Symmetrix (3430 and 3700) and HDS 7700 Storage Subsystems, ATL P3000 tape libraries and various UNIX (SUN and HP) and Windows NT Servers. Legato Networker is used for backup. Information provided must describe in detail the following characteristics: 1) volume management, 2) port zoning, 3) security, 4) tape drive sharing, 5) "serverless" backup directions, and, 6) fabric administration tools.
