Environmental Initiatives in the Russian Federation The U.S. Agency
for International Development's Mission to Russia (USAID/Russia)
intends to issue two Request for Proposals (RFAs) in early 2000, to
support environmental initiatives in the Russian Federation. We are
soliciting Expressions of Interest in each RFA from our potential
partners. The first RFA is expected to be issued in January, 2000 and
will focus on replication and dissemination of environmental activities
that solve pollution problems, protect natural resources, and support
sustainable growth. This four-year project will be the second phase of
the current Replication of Lessons Learned (ROLL) Project currently
being implemented through a cooperative agreement with the Institute
for Sustainable Communities. The estimated life of project budget is
USD 12 million, subject to the availability of funds. The second RFA is
expected to be issued in late March, 2000 and will focus on sustainable
forestry management in the Russian Far East and Siberia. This new
five-year project will build upon USAID/Russia's successful forestry
and natural resources activities and provide continued support for
forest fire prevention and management, pest control, biomass to fuel
conversion, and environmentally friendly small business development.
The estimated life of project budget is USD 20 million, subject to the
availability of funds. We look forward to your response. ***** Posted
