COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 4,1999 PSA#2469COMPENDIUM OF COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL DEFENSE
EQUIPMENT COMPENDIUM OF COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL
DEFENSE EQUIPMENT DUE 013100 POC Ms Tracy Cronin, Technical Support
Working Group (TSWG), E-MAIL: POC, Cbrnc-Compendium@specialtech.com.
TSWG requests sources of chemical and biological defense equipment
provide information on their products for incorporation into compendium
of commercially available equipment. The heightened national concern
that terrorists will employ chemical agents, toxic industrial materials
(TIMs), and/or biological agents against domestic targets is prompting
state and local first responders to enhance their response
capabilities. In recognizing the needs of state and local first
responders, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) supported by the
TSWG is developing a compendium of commercially available CB defense
equipment as of 31 Mar 2000. This compendium is to be distributed as an
electronic database to the first responder community and serve as a
reference for identifying CB defense equipment for potential purchase.
The compendium will not promote any particular item; rather it will be
a recapitulation of factual information received from the sources. The
compendium will include chemical and biological, detection, personal
protective (percutaneous and respiratory), decontamination, and
chemical/biological-related explosive ordnance disposal (EOD)
equipment. In parallel with the effort, the National Institute of
Standards and Technology, supported by TSWG and NIJ, is developing CB
equipment guidelines as of 31 April 1999. The guidelines will identify
equipment technologies and rank equipment versus a set of evaluation
criteria. The guidelines will focus on chemical and biological
equipment in the areas of detection, personal protection,
decontamination, medical, and communications. Data fields identified
for the compendium and guidelines fall into the following categories:
general, operational, physical, logistical, current users and special
requirements. The general category includes name, technology,
manufacturer, etc. Operational includes agents detected/protected
against, alarm capability, duration of protection, suggested uses,
current users, supporting performance-testing etc. Physical includes,
size, weight, color, etc. Logistical includes portability, durability,
shelf life, etc. Special requirements include applicable regulations
required for operation/disposal, training available, testing
information, etc. Sources are asked to contact by e-mail the TSWG POC
for a detailed list of the data fields. The deadline for response to
this notice is January 31, 2000. E-MAIL: Ms. Tracy Cronin, Technical
