Synopsis. The following information is provided to assist the Air
Force in conducting a Market Research of Industry to determine
potential contractors who have the skills, experience and knowledge
required to successfully complete this effort. Hill AFB Utah. This is
not a Request for Proposal or Invitation for Bid. The F-16 Support
Division, Mechanical/Structural Section has a requirement for the
manufacture and delivery of the Rate Sensor Unit (RSU) in the F-16
Head-Up Display (HUD) Set, NSN 6605-01-078-4943WF. The anticipated
quantity is 1500 each. The RSU assembly provides angular rate
information for the Roll, Pitch and Yaw axes and in addition provides
information relating to the aircraft's acceleration normal to the
fuselage reference plane. The RSU includes a power supply card, an
accelerometer and three rate gyroscope cards, one each for pitch, yaw
and roll axes. The accelerometer assembly in the RSU senses
acceleration rates and converts them intoa positive or negative DC
output voltage, which is proportional to the input rate. Each of the
rate gyroscopes develops a positive or negative DC output voltage,
which is proportional to the respective applied turning rate. Outputs
from the accelerometer circuit and each rate gyroscope circuit are
applied to the head-up display (HUD) in the aircraft. The RSU also
continually outputs a go or no-go self-test signal. The Air Force would
like to replace this Rate Sensor Unit (RSU) with a new design, under
the Falcon Flex Program (Form, Fit and Function Interface Requirement),
that will be compatible with existing software and hardware interfaces,
will be more reliable, and more economical to purchase. Interested
parties are requested to submit two copies of a summary of the
capabilities and facilities they have which will allow them to perform
the development and manufacture of a new RSU. The Government does not
intend to contract on the basis of this request or otherwise pay for
the information solicited. Written responses must be submitted by 08
NOV 99 to OO-ALC/LGKE, ATTN: Mary Lynne Adams, 6072 Fir Ave, Hill AFB,
UT 84056-5820. No telephone or FAX requests will be accepted. The
approximate issue/response date will be 23 NOV 1999. Electronic
procedure will be used for this solicitation. See our Web page. Posted
