COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 8,1999 PSA#2471THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM WILL BE HOLDING ITS NATIONAL MEETING ON
NOVEMBER 15-17 IN SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA The Advanced Technology Program
will be holding its 1999 National Meeting on November 15-17 in San
Jose, California. The conference will feature in-depth workshops along
six technology and economic tracks including: biotechnology,
chemistry, information technology, electronics, materials and
manufacturing, and economic assessment. A description of each of the
five technical tracks will be published in the CBD daily. The fourth
track summary is photonics and electronics. This track is aimed at
providing an in-depth look into many of the leading-edge technology
segments from the electronics and photonics industries. Each workshop
will focus on the ongoing collaborative R&D work between these
industries and the ATP, and will explore future collaborative research
opportunities. The technical barriers and challenges that need to be
overcome to enable next generation and generation-after-next
electronics and photonics applications will also be explored. The
workshops include: Microelectronics Manufacturing Infrastructure (MMI)
(topics: materials, processing, equipment, design tools,
measurement/test for manufacturing of semiconductor chips, packages,
board interconnection, and assembly) Photonics Manufacturing: Results,
Challenges and Opportunities (topics: manufacturing of compound
semiconductor devices, material processing, simulation and modeling,
package and assembly, and system requirements) Supporting Technologies
for Semiconductor Lithography (topics: exposure techniques, masks,
resists, metrology, inspection and repair tools, optics, alignment
systems, ultraclean wafer transport, etc. for dimensions of 100 nm and
beyond) Organic Electronics (topics: materials synthesis and
processing, lifetimes, manufacturability, requirements) Advanced
Wireless Communications: Are We Ready?(topics: current global status of
research, development, and applications in wireless communications;
wireless communications hardware; protocols, mobility and software) The
ATP 1999 National Meeting will be hosted by the San Jose DoubleTree
Hotel. For more information and to track schedule updates, visit the
