Bienduga, CS, bienduga@pica.army.mil. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC is contemplating the development of a High Fragment Fuze (HFF). The Army currently has a need for an artillery fuze that has an accurate 4.6 meter height of burst while meeting other safety and performance criteria. The fuze must incorporate a turn-on timer for the proximity sensor with a turn-on of 3.5 seconds. The objective is to develop a new RF proximity fuze or to modify an existing RF proximity fuze for a new high fragment projectile. The fuze/projectile assembly will be fired from a modified M137, 105MM cannon that is mounted in the AC-130 Gunship The Government intends to award two sole source contracts in accordance with FAR 6.302-1, one to Alliant Techsystems Incorporated (DAAE30-99-R-0543. Hopkins, MN and one to KDI Corporation (DAAE30-99-R-0544, Cincinnati, OH for the delivery of prototype fuzes to be evaluated by the Government. The Government intends to downselect to one contractor for production 13,780 fuzes. See Numbered Notes 22 and 26. Contact Frank S.
