DAAA09-00-R-5009 Rebuild of Selas Tempering Furnace at Watervliet
Arsenal, NY. The solicitation will be issued on the Internet. NO HARD
COPIES WILL BE ISSUED. The solicitation is 100% set-aside for small
business. The web site is: www.ioc.army.mil/ac/aais/ioc/ The Government
has a requirement for the rebuild of one 1977 vintage Selas,
horizontal, box style, roller type, austenitizing/tempering Furnace.
The serial number is 126550. Only the tempering portion of the furnace
will be rebuilt. The tempering furnace is comprised of 6 sections. The
first 4 sections are gas fired with (3 burners per zone) for a total of
12 burners, with the remaining 2 sections being electrically fired (6
elements per zone) for a total of 12 heating elements. All gas burners
shall be replaced. The furnace is controlled by a series of Honeywell
Model # UDC 5000 Ultra-Pro, D-5061-0-1000-100-00-0211 controllers. For
the purpose of this rebuild, the controls will remain untouched. GAS
PORTION: As a minimum, all burners shall be replaced, the entire
furnace lining shall be replaced with new insulation, replacement of
the asbestos gaskets for the burner areas, and repair/replacement of
all piping, wiring channels and wiring for the control circuitry.
ELECTRIC PORTION: All the gas burners shall be replaced with the
electric heating elements remaining untouched, all the zones of the
furnace will also be replaced with new insulation, repair/replacement
of piping, wiring channels and wiring where necessary, in particular
the thermowire which is connected to the heating elements. Where
required, the interior walls of the electric portion of the furnace
will be repaired or replaced. The internal ductwork (plenum areas) for
the air circulation system, which is used to circulate the heated air
in the electric zones, shall also be replaced where required. Any new
insulation in the chambers shall not restrict the circulation of
heated air within the chamber. The walls, ceiling area, and floors
shall also be repaired where necessary to prevent heat from escaping
the chamber areas. Prospective Offerors will be given the opportunity
to visually inspect the equipment prior to solicitation closing date.
