Walter Krainski (508) 233-4614 E-MAIL: the point of contact,
wkrainsk@natick-amed02.army.mil. The US Army Natick Soldier Center is
conducting a MARKET SURVEY to support a three year science and
technology program investigating roll-on/roll-off/softlanding heavy
airdrop technologies. This market survey will be used to determine
possible sources for this S & T program. This center is interested in
obtaining information about roll-on/roll-off/softlanding technologies
for payload weights ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 pounds that will: 1)
minimize rigging time (a reduction of up to 60% in the time it
currently takes to rig a payload using paper honeycomb is desired), 2)
provide a rapid drive off capability upon landing, 3) transmit equal
or less overall impact shock to the payload than current paper
honeycomb systems, and 4.) reduce life cycle costs over current methods
when labor savings are considered. Critical factors affecting potential
candidates for this system are low cost and performance. The funding
levels in this program are projected to be on the order of $3,000,000
over three years.Interested companies should submit a description of
any proposed technologies that could be applied to this program, such
as new rigging and/or improved impact attenuation concepts, ground
height sensors/triggers, as well as the anticipated cost of prototypes,
an outline of a desired program plan ending in a full scale operational
vehicle demonstration, and a description of existing
capabilities/experience in this technology area. Interested parties
should respond to Commander, US Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA
