13 -- AMMUNITION -- POTENTIAL SOURCES SOUGHT SOL No solicitation DUE 121599 POC Linda White, Contracting Officer, 410-278-2998/FAX: 410-278-2980 The Research,Development & Acquisition Office, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is seeking to identify potential sources who have the capability to manufacture 5.56mm ammunition that can achieve subsonic muzzle velocities of less than 1055 feet per second as measured at sea level at constant pressure. The requirement is for commercial off-the-shelf ammunition that negates the high pitch "crack" that occurs when the velocity of a projectile exceeds the speed of sound upon exiting the muzzle of a weapon. This notice is not to be considered a solicitation; no solicitation exists. All responses received by the government by the response deadline will be reviewed to determine what firms have the capability to manufacture 5.56mm ammunition that meets or exceeds the foregoing requirement.
