CONFERENCE The Association of Old Crows will present a 2000 & Beyond --
Foreign Air Defense Impact on Electronic Warfare Conference December
1-2, 1999 at the Defense Intelligence Agency's Missile and Space
Intelligence Center (DIA/MSIC), Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The
classification of the conference will be SECRET, U.S. ONLY. Dr. William
S. Lummus, Jr., Chief Scientist, Directorate for Intelligence
Production, DIA, and Mr. R. Douglas Street, Chief of the Defensive
Systems Office, MSIC, will chair the conference. The purpose of the
conference is to provide a broad overview of foreign air defense trends
for the coming decades, emphasizing those issues related to the
development, testing and employment of electronic warfare systems. The
keynote speaker will be Colonel Harry Spies, USMC, Commanding Officer,
Marine Air Control Group 38. Session One will address air defense
systems in the coming decades. It will include topics covering: EO/IR
SAMs, Today's Threat & Trends for the Next Millennium; Major Upgrade
Programs to 1st and 2nd Generation SAMs; Worldwide Laser Weapon Threats
to U.S. Aviation; Air Defense Artillery in the Era of Precision-Guided
Munitions, the Market Responds; Airborne EW Systems; Naval Radar
Projections; Emerging RF SAM Threats. Session Two will address the
topic of the integrated air defense system (IADS). This session will
contain a series of briefings that describe how different systems from
the first session can be integrated. Papers will address: IADS
Collaborative Production Program; Worldwide IADS Trends; Russian IADS;
IADS Crisis Tasking for Iraq, FLAMES IADS M&S; and Ground-Based
Electronic Warfare/Raven On-line Database. Session Three will focus on
new tools for threat analysis to assist EW developers, including
modeling and simulation of foreign threat systems. The briefings will
describe how the Intelligence Community is developing validated threat
air defense engagement-level models as products to support EW
development and testing programs. Briefings will focus on: Introduction
to Threat M&S and New Software Analysis Tools; S&TI Centers on M&S
Efforts; and Joint Research Analysis and Assessment Center Special
Study. In addition to the briefings, there will be a foreign air
defense equipment display which will include hands-on demonstrations.
This is another not-to-be-missed conference. This is the first time the
AOC has offered a conference addressing this critical area. The
briefings, in conjunction with the foreign air defense equipment
displays, will afford attendees a unique opportunity to enhance their
technical knowledge and to become current in this high-interest area.
