99 -- MARKET SURVEY FOR BATONS AND NIGHTSTICKS DUE 120399 POC Ms. Fernanda Crivello (508)233-4435 E-MAIL: fcrivello@natick-emh2.army.mil, fcrivello@natick-emh2.army.mil. The U.S. Army Soldier & Biological Chemical Command at the Soldier Systems Center, Natick MA is conducting a Market Investigation to identify suppliers and manufacturers of batons/nightsticks. The U.S. Army is interested in locating firms with capabilities to provide commercial batons/nightsticks products that might satisfy the military requirement for a Family of Batons and Nightsticks. The U.S. Army recently established the operational requirements for three types of batons. The three types are (1) investigator baton, (2) patrol baton, and (3) riot control baton. General salient properties for the three types of batons are as follows: Ambidextrous, non-slip handle, 1.25 inches maximum handle diameter, durable, shock resistant and black in color. In addition, batons must be expandable/collapsible with a positive means to lock it in the expanded position and have a manual unlock system. Additional properties of each type are (1) Investigator baton type: concealable under a sportcoat or waist lengthjacket/windbreaker, maximum weight 20 ounces, and maximum length of 8 inches when collapsed and 22 inches when expanded. (2) Patrol baton type: maximum weight 30 ounces, maximum length of 14 inches when collapsed and 24 inches when expanded, ability to attach and detach a perpendicular side handle and have a carrying baton device that can be attached to the equipment belt and/or pistol belt. (3) Riot baton type maximum weight 2.2 pounds and maximum length between 30-38 inches when expanded and locked into position, operable while wearing heavy work gloves, and have a carrying baton device that can be attached to the equipment belt and/or the pistol belt. Interested sources must, within thirty (30) days following the publication of this synopsis, respond with information on their product(s). Interested sources shall include information detailed in CBD Note 25 regarding a firm's experience, personnel, and facilities. Information should include product cost and physical characteristics, literature and illustrations, relevant company background/experience, and a sample (optional). Firms responding shall indicate whether or not they are a small business. The size standard for this industry is 3999 employees. Any information submitted will not be returned. If a firm chooses to submit samples, no payment will be made by the Government for such samples. Responses to this notice are to be sent to Ms. Fernanda D.
