The Program Support Center, Division of Acquisition Management intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, with the Systems Research and Applications Corporation, 2000 15th Street, North, Arlington, VA 22201 for a twelve month extension of Contract Number 213-94-0004 to operate the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB). The NPDB is maintained in the contractor-owned-contractor operated facility. The contractor also provides the equipment and software for the data bank. The current contract, awarded August 1994 is in its final option period which expires June 30, 2000. Since July 1997, SRA has been developing the Healthcare Integrity Protection Data Bank (HIPDB) using the NPDB as the baseline. The one year contract extension will enable SRA to complete the integration of the NPDB/HIPDB, initiate operation of the HIPDB, and replace the use of a private value added network (VAN), for NPDB clients to interact with the NPDB, with an integrated NPDB/HIPDB Internet web site, while not disrupting the NPDB which is a legislated verification tool for the medical community. The integrated NPDB/HIPDB will hereafter be known as QADS, i.e. Quality Assurance Data Systems. The extension will provide the Division of Quality Assurance, HRSA invaluable information on the workload and resources necessary to operate and maintain QADS as they prepare their acquisition plan for a follow-on contract to operate QADS.
