Fuels Development of the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy
Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is supporting the issuance of
this Supplemental Announcement to the EERE Broad Based Solicitation for
Submission of Financial Assistance Applications Involving Research,
Development and Demonstration, DE-PS36-00GO10482. The Broad Based
Solicitation contains information that must be used in conjunction with
this Supplemental Announcement when applying for an award. Thus, in
order to prepare a complete application, it is mandatory to comply with
the requirements of the overall Broad Based Solicitation document,
DE-PS36-00GO10482 (found on the Golden Field Office Home Page at
http://www.eren.doe.gov/golden/solicitations.html) as well as the
requirements of this Supplemental Announcement 04 document. Under this
Supplemental Announcement, DOE is seeking research and development
(R&D) proposals that will increase the efficiency or lower the cost of
producing and converting biomass to transportation fuels. The
objective of this solicitation is to support new approaches to improve
technology for the efficient, cost effective production of ethanol.
There are three specific areas of interest for this solicitation.
Biomass feedstock collection and storage, which includes research and
development related to improving the harvest, harvest equipment,
handling, transportation and storage of biomass for conversion to fuels
and chemicals. Conversation technologies, which includes biological
processing of biomass to ethanol. Pretreatment fundamentals, which
includes research techniques and analytical tools that could lead to a
better understanding of fundamental processes of pretreatment. Award
under this Supplemental Announcement will be Cooperative Agreements
with a term of up to 12 months. Subject to funding availability, it is
anticipated the total DOE funding under this Supplemental Announcement
will be $1,000,000 with individual awards not to exceed $150,000 of DOE
funding. A minimum Cost Share of 20% of the total project cost is
required under this Supplemental Announcement. It is DOE's intention
