Under AIDAR 706.302-70(b)(5), USAID/Nicaragua intends to award a follow on contract to the Research Foundation of the State University of New York (SUNY) to assist the Nicaraguan National Assembly (NNA) in a program of modernization. Since 1997, SUNY has assisted the NNA through development of a legislative tracking system, training legislators in its us and improving the capacity of legislators to objectively assess legislative proposals by providing them with timely and succinct analyses of pending legislation. The new award will assist the NNA by building on the prior work; providing training to an expanded group of legislators and staff, as well as new deputies to be elected in 2001, in use of the legislative tracking system; as well as help to create constituent relations and press relations office.
