The Social Security Administration (SSA)plans to issue a competitive 8(a) solicitation for the acquisition of sign language and/or other recognized modes of interpreting services for deaf, hard of hearing, and/or deaf-blind employees, or applicants. This requirement includes eleven (11) on site daily (8 hours per day) interpreters for the SSA headquarters complex buildings in Baltimore, Maryland, and hourly services agency-wide as needed. Certified or qualified interpreters shall perform all interpreting services. A qualified interpreter shall have a minimum of three (3) years paid professional experience within the last five (5) years. The interpreters shall be required to work in a variety of situations in the SSA environment. The proposed contract is for a base period of 12 months with four 12-month options. This requirement is being conducted under FAR Part 12, Commercial Items. This requirement has been set aside 100 percent for 8(a) minority and disadvantaged business concerns in either the developmental or transitional stages. In order to be considered eligible for contract award, the offeror must be an eligible participant in the 8(a) program on the initial date specified in the solicitation for receipt of offers. The applicable SIC code and size standard are 7389 and $5 million. SSA-RFP-00-0145 will be available on the EPS web page at www.eps.gov on or about January 3, 2000 with proposals being due 30 days later.
