E-MAIL: Yolanda Bent, yolanda.bent@scott.af.mil. Description: A -- Air Mobility Command (AMC) intends to conduct testing of a drop down smoke hood. This is advanced development of the existing Victim Rescue Unit (VRU). Respondents should have rights or access to commercial designs for the VRU, NSN 1660-01-421-0084. The hood shall be a modified VRU to provide aircrew members and passengers with hypoxia, and smoke and fume protection. The smoke hood shall connect to existing on-board oxygen to supply and have means for quick disconnect to provide smoke and fume protection during egress. The unit design shall allow for verbal communication when donned. The unit shall contain it_s own source of oxygen for egress, and shall fit in the overhead compartment without modification to the compartment. The successful Offeror will be required to deliver two prototype units within 30 days of contract award, and 100 functional test articles, designated for specific aircraft application/testing within 60 days of prototype approval. The performance objectives of the hood are as follows. 1) The test units will fit into the allotted space provided in the specified aircraft(s). 2) The test units shall be capable of integration on military and commercial derivative aircraft. 3) The units shall provide protection greater than the existing Passenger Oxygen Mask and meet established protection requirements of the VRU. 4) The units shall meet or exceed the established requirements for donning time. 5) Incorporation of the units shall reduce inspection time and manpower impacts during servicing. 6) Incorporation of the units shall significantly reduce the life cycle cost in comparison to the current VRU and Passenger Oxygen Mask and enhance overall mission readiness. Test articles shall be built identical to production models. Test subject will be closely monitored to determine any shortfalls of the design or instructions.
