NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a materials study to determine the proper co-dopants and doping concentrations in heavily-doped neodymium optical fibers that result in a gain peak near 944 nm, absence of self-pulsations, ion-pair quenching, and clustering. The study shall consist of theoretical modeling, computer simulations of neodymium optical fiber lasers and amplifiers. It shall also include correlation with experimental data where possible. The study shall include proper design of both single-clad and double-clad fiber parameters (such as core diameter, doping profile, etc). This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. The SIC Code and Size Standard are 8731 and 500 employees, respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurment is DO -- C9. The anticipated release date of RFQ 1-168-RDH.1027 is on or about January 4, 2000 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about January 21, 2000.
