The Department of Veterans Affairs, John D. Dingell Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan is searching for and Architect/Engineer (A/E) firm to prepare preliminary inspections, investigations, cost estimates and reports for the remediation and final disposition of approximately 1.2 million square feet of building space located at the old Allen Park VA Medical Center. The existing facility includes two 15 story towers and 7 outbuildings, all built circa 1940s-1960s. The A/E must have extensive experience with major building demolition. A/E firms staff should include Michigan State Certified Industrial Hygienist, Licensed Structural Engineers and at least three state certified technical experts on land redevelopment and facility disposal. The A/E should be prepared to deal with environmental issues concerning asbestos building materials and lead building materials and any other waste materials that may be typically encounterd in a fifty year old structure. The A/E should be prepared to assist the VAMC in dealing with city, county, state and federal agencies and Ford Motor Land Development Corporation, who is the actual owner of the 25 acre site in order to develop accepetable plans for demolition of buildings. Demolition is estimated to be between $1 million and $5 million.
