This is a modification to the synopsis entitled Theoretical Modeling of Neodynium-Doped Optical Fibers 1-168-RDH.1027 which was posted on December 7, 1999. You are notified that the following changes are made: The description is hereby changed to read: NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a two phase R&D effort. Phase I will cover theoretical modeling of neodynium (Nd) doped optical fibers to achieve high Nd doping concentration and a gain peak near 944 nm, and comparison of the modeling to experimental results. Phase II (Option 1) will consist of further theoretical modeling of the fiber material and modeling to optimize fibers for use in high power CW and Q-switched narrow linewidth, tunable fiber lasers and amplifiers. NASA LaRC plans to issue a competitive solicitation for Phase I and then will negotiate with the successful offeror on a sole source basis for Phase II-after the results of Phase I are known.
