99 -- XYZ TRANSLATION STAGE ASSEMBLIES SOL RFQBF5733 DUE 122399 POC Rena Cerbone, contracting Officer, Tel: 617-495-7445; Fax: 617-495-7485; email: rcerbone@cfa.harvard.edu The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory intends to award on a Sole Source basis, a purchase order to New England Affiliated Technologies, Division of Kollmorgan for the following items: four (4) each P/N: 1930122, XYR-4040, XYZ Precision Stage; four (4) each P/N: 1121261, MDM7 Microstep Driver Module. Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory currently has five (5) of these assemblies in use for the SAO/Submillimeter Array Project. These XYZ Translation Stages/Assemblies were designed and built specifically for the Submillimeter Array Chopper. This precision stage is used in the Chopping Secondary Mirror Systems for the SMA Antennas. The existing assemblies presently fit and interface within the relatively confining space inside the Chopper Housing and are electrically and mechanically compatible with the existing hardware. A determination by SAO not to compete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of SAO. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. This acquisition is being conducted under the guidelines as set forth in the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). No written solicitation will be issued for this requirement.
