COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 21,1999 PSA#2500Naval Research Laboratory, Attn: Code 3230, 4555 Overlook Avenue, SW,
Washington, DC 20375-5326 A -- RESEARCH SUPPORT IN THE AREA OF RADIATION AND ACCELERATION
PHYSICS AT THE NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY, WASHINGTON, D.C. SOL
N00173-00-R-MN01 POC Michelle Nicholl, Contract Specialist, Code
3230.MN (202)767-4597, Carol Parnell, Contracting Officer WEB: click
here, http://heron.nrl.navy.mil/contracts/home.htm. The Naval Research
Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for support for the Plasma Physics
Division in the area of Radiation and acceleration physics. Research
on advanced sources of radiation and particale accelerators is being
conducted in areas including nonlinear optics, free-electron lasers,
high gradient accelerators, electron and ion beam transport, x-ray
sources, microwave processing of ceramics, microwave power beaming, and
remote sensing and detection of hazardous materials and
underground/underwater structures. This research entails the use of
analytical, numerical and experimental techniques as well as
specialized computer software and hardware. Research is needed in many
areas of nonlinear optics. For example, in super-continuum generation
the spectral and temporal characteristics can have a significant
impact on the utility of white-light sources in remote sensing. Studies
of free-electron lasers are expected to concentrate on start-up and
beam quality effects on the growth rate, efficiency, filling factor and
curvature of the radiation wavefronts. Amplifier and oscillator
configurations, as well as the process of self-amplified spontaneous
emission (SASE) are of interest. Steady-state and time-dependent
simulation codes are needed to analyze the evolution of TM110 and TM210
rotating modes in magnicon amplifier deflection and the output
cavities. Numerical, analytical and experimental studies are needed for
the cyclotron autoresonant accelerator, vacuum and plasma beat-wave and
wakefield accelerators. The solicitation and any amendments to it will
be available via the Internet at the URL address shown.
http://heron.nrl.navy.mil/contracts. Paper copies of the RFP will not
be provided. It is the Government's intent to make a single award. The
period of performance will be one year from date of contract award
with two option years thereafter. The Standard Industrial
Classification code for this procurement is 8731. This procurement is
100% set-aside for small business concerns. The closing date is30 days
from the date the solicitation is issued. This is a follow on
requirement, therefore, there is an incumbent. The incumbent is Icarus
Research of Bethesda, Maryland. Any questions related to the issuance
of this solicitation must be received no later than 5 days before the
closing date and shall be directed to Michelle Nicholl, Contract
Specialist @ (202) 767-4597 or e-mail address:
