A -- DRAFT RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE GOSSAMER SPACECRAFT EXPLORATORY RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to issue a DRAFT NASA Research Announcement (NRA) for community review and comment for Gossamer Spacecraft Exploratory Research and Technology. Gossamer spacecraft technology development is focused on revolutionary architectures for very large, ultra-lightweight structures and apertures. This NRA will solicit proposals for exploratory research to begin long-range development of gossamer spacecraft technology in two areas of emphasis: large apertures for breakthrough imaging and solar sails. Participation is open to all categories of organizations, foreign and domestic, including industry, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers, and other Government agencies. NASA welcomes critical review and comment of this DRAFT NRA by January 14, 2000, and will be available on or about December 20, 1999, via the World Wide Web site: http://spacescience.nasa.gov.
