The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport intends to issue a draft solicitation describing its requirement to procure, on a Firm-Fixed basis, Lightweight Broadband Variable Depth Sonar (LBVDS) Handling Systems. The systems will be required to handle, retrieve, store, and tow (at variable depths) the LBVDS Tow Body during sea tests. The Basic contract will be for one(1) system which will be used for tests conducted from a Navy/Commercial ship and must be operational from a deck height of fifteen(15) feet. The Option I system will be used for tests conducted from a commercial/oceanographic ship. The system shall be operational from a deck height of six(6) feet. The Government reserves the right, at time of award, to replace the Basic requirement with the Option I requirement. Additional information: The Tow Body weight is 4,000 pounds, the required length of cable to be handled is 1,400 feet for the Basic requirement and 900 feet for Option I. The draft solicitation is scheduled to be released on 12-29-99 with industry comment to be received not later than 1-11-00. The formal RFP is scheduled to be released 1-20-00.
