The United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) intends to award a contract on a sole-source basis to Hitachi Instruments, Inc., San Jose, CA pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. This action is being pursued on a sole-source basis because the Government believes that Hitachi Instruments, Inc. is the only contractor with the expertise to provide the preventative and remedial maintenance and support services on a Government-owned Hitachi electron microscope and camera located at USAMRIID, Fort Detrick, MD. USAMRAA intends to award this requirement under Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The period of performance is for a base period of 12 months (1 Jan 00 -- 31 Dec 00) and 4 option years. The contractor shall provide the preventative and remedial maintenance and support services inclusive of all travel and transportation, reports, certificates, repair parts, maintenance, material and standards for calibration, calibration using instruments traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) or a natural physical constant and shall keep the equipment operating in accordance with equipment manufacturer's specifications.
