COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 6,2000 PSA#2510National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases, Contract Management Branch, Room 2230, 6700-B
Rockledge Drive, MSC 7612, Bethesda, MD 20892-7612 A -- ESTABLISHMENT OF A GENETIC SYSTEM IN CANDIDA ALBICANS SOL
SS-DMID-00-33 DUE 021800 POC Mr. Paul D. McFarlane, Senior Contracting
Officer, 301-496-0349 The National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases intends to negotiate for a three-year contract with
the University of Minnesota. The nature of the work involves completing
the creation of the physical map, closure of gaps, location of
centromeres, and maintenance of a reference repository of phosmid
clones containing the contigs for the genome of the opportunistic
fungal pathogen, Candida albicans. University of Minnesota is uniquely
qualified to perform this work, and the resulting information on the
genome organization of C. albicans will enable the scientific community
to study the basic biology and virulence of C. albicans, which it's
hoped, will lead to better means of diagnosis, prevention and treatment
of the multiple clinical presentations of candidiasis. The public
health importance of the proposed work as well as inherent duplication
of cost to the government and unacceptable delays in initiating and
completing the project makes competition unfeasible. Therefore, the
government intends to proceed with a sole source award under the
authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. See
