The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ will issue a contemplation letter to General Dynamics Ordnance Systems (GDOS) for Reactive Applique Armor Tiles for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle System (BFVS). TACOM-ARDEC currently has a contract (DAAE30-97-C-1045) with GDOS for the production of these tiles. This effort shall be a modification to the existing contract. AS such, the Government does not intend to issue a formal solicitation for this requirement. These tiles are capable of protecting the BFVS against the anti-tank guided missile class threats, and are not vulnerable to burning or detonation from small arms fire. These tiles also meet BFVS weight constraints (the armor and mounting hardware cannot add more than 6,934 pounds to the vehicle), and they fit the armor attachment provisions currently in place on the BFVS. The contemplated basic quantity for FY00 is seventy (70)each -- vehicle tile sets with option quantities in FY01 of sixty (60) and one hundred twenty (120) sets each. A "vehicle set" is comprised of twenty-six (26) M3A1 tiles; nine (9) M4A1 tiles; fifty-five (55) M5A1 tiles; seven (7) M6A1 tiles and eight (8) M7A1 tiles. These tiles have been qualified by GDOS per performance specification MIL-PRF-70773 that is classified, SECRET. A SECRET clearance is required for access to this information. This effort includes a requirement for some M3A1 rework. This requirement is being solicited from GDOS on a firm-fixed-price basis as the basic contract was awarded as such.
