68 -- CUSTOM MANUFACTURED BUFFERS SOL 2000N00011 POC Bill Bancroft, Contract Specialist, (770)488-2611 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to purchase on a sole source basis a 12-month contract schedule of custom manufactured buffers from Life Technologies, Inc. First delivery under the proposed contract will be March 1, 2000. It is believed that LTI's products are the only products currently available to meet the immediate CDC requirements, and, as is required by Federal FDA/GMP and CLIA regulations, the CDC does not now possess the necessary documentation of testing, audits and evaluations of potentially equivalent products from alternate suppliers. New such custom-made buffer products to be used under these CDC studies must undergo comprehensive testing and evaluation to clearly demonstrate quality and consistency commensurate with CDC specifications. Typically, the evaluation period can run twelve months. In an effort to introduce other suppliers to CDC, a competitive procurement for these products is anticipated in January 2001. In the ensuing twelve months CDC intends to formally evaluate competitive products, to likely include site visits and production document review with firms that wish to participate in the evaluation process. All interested parties may identify their interests in providing comparable products, but must provide proof of capability to provide an acceptable product by submitting an accurate description of the products. Since no solicitation package exists for this solicitation, requests for such documents without accompanying information to establish the vendor's capability of meeting the Government's needs will be considered non-responsive to this synopsis. Only responses containing this data will be considered for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Award will not be made on the basis of responses to this synopsis. If no feasible responses are received by the close of business 15 days from the date this notice appears in the CBD, a procurement will be named with the above-named source.
