CINCPACFLT, Pearl Harbor, HI intend to negotiate on a sole source
basis for the following BSDI Operating System equipment from Telenet
System Solutions, Inc, 2480 Kruse Dr, San Jose CA 95131, telephone:
(408) 383-0334: SYSTEM 1 -- 7-each Regular System w/39GB HD with the
following components: Intel P32-CPU 440GX 6P/I LAN, U2W+UW, VGA; Intel
CPU 550MHz Pentium-3 512K Box Fan; Memory ECC 64x72 512MB PC100 for
L440GX; MB has on board Adaptec Chip-7896 Dual Channel U2W and UW; TEAC
1.44 Floppy 3.5" Black; Seagate SCSI 9.1 GB ST39175LW 7200 7M LVD; BSDI
Commercl Server 4.01 16User Binary. SYSTEM 2 -- 7-each Regular System
w/29GB HD and 118GB HD same components as listed for SYSTEM 1. PURPOSE:
These systems require use of the BSDI Operating System which is the
prescribed Navy Fleet NOC standard. U.S. Navy engineers have in the
past struggled in reconfiguring as well as buying replacement
components to make BSDI-based systems out of PC's that had been
purchased that were delivered with the Windows Operating System and
then they had to follow up when Operating System upgrades took place.
JUSTIFICATION FOR OTHER THAN FULL AND OPEN COMPETITION: Telenet, which
comes highly regarded by the makers of the BSDI Operating System will
custom-configure to the Navy's requirements, ready to go, tested and
burnt for 72hrs before they are delivered. Telenet is the only company
which will provide free basic technical support for BSDI OS once
servers are purchased. They have a dedicated team of engineers to
proide support. Telenet also provides lifetime free basic technical
support on existing configurations. This support will enhance the
support provided to Telenet's four 24x7 operational sites. The BSDI
license is included in the cost. A SOLICIATATION WILL NOT BE ISSUED as
a result of this CBD. Only one order will be issued for this
requirement no partials. This requirement will be purchased under FAR
Part 12 -- Acquisition of Commercial Items. A commercial item is
defined as an item, other than real property, that is of a type
customarily used for non-governmental purposes and that has been sold,
leased, or licensed to the general public. This notice of intent is
not a request for competitive proposals or quotations; however, all
proposals received as a result of this synopsis will be considered
solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive
procurement. Firms responding to this synopsis should reference the
solicitation number and indicate whether they are small or
small-disadvantaged business are defined in FAR 52.219. Notice should
