GLOBAL INFORMATION GRID COMMERCIAL SATCOM WORKING GROUP The Global Information Grid Senior Steering Group (GIG SSG) has directed the establishment of a Advisory Group to develop a comprehensive strategy for engaging the commercial SATCOM industry. The Advisory Group will concentrate on national security issues and plans for the use of commercial SATCOM. The three primary goals of the Advisory Group are as follows: (a) to improve communications between the DoD and supporting agencies and the commercial SATCOM provider community, and by this means, make national security space needs known to the provider community, (b) to develop a comprehensive strategy for leveraging applicable current and future commercial SATCOM capabilities, knowledge and investment into the Global Information Grid, and (c) to ensure coordination of these activities across the national security space community occurs. The entire commercial SATCOM provider community is invited to participate, and will be provided equal access to all non-proprietary products of this effort. A set of specific recommendations for engaging commercial SATCOM industry will be developed. These will address procedures and ground rules, and suggestions for future activities, including recommendations that might be applied to future procurements that would enhance both commercial SATCOM industry and national security space community interests.
