301-594-7731 The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National
Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has a
requirement to purchase a Lyot based VariSpec Raman liquid crystal
tunable filter from Cambridge Research Instrumentation Inc., 80 Ashford
Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02134. The following features shall be
included in the system: 1) Continually tunable from 510-710 nm, with a
best effort to adjust the range to 490 -690nm; 2) A band pass of 0.25
nm (full width at half maximum) @ 550nm; 3) An average out of band
rejection of 104 to 1; 4) Transmission of greater than or equal to 10%
@ 550nm and 20% @ 650nm; 5) An aperture diameter of 20mm; 6) A 7
degree (half angle) angle of acceptance; 7) Capacitance sensing mode
for liquid crystal alignment and tuning. The Institute intends to
purchase this equipment by other than full and open competition from
Cambridge Research Instrumentation Inc. To the best of the Governments
knowledge they are sole manufacturer and distributor of this
equipment. Interested vendors may be identify in writing their interest
with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the
closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for
competitive proposals, however, all responses received before closing
date of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A
determination by the Government not to compete this proposed
acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely for
the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive
procurement. It is anticipated that Request for Quotation (RFQ)
NIH-NIDDK-00-525 will be available fifteen (15) days after the
publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due
ten days (10) days after the publication date of this synopsis. The
anticipated award date is February 9, 2000. Request for copies of the
RFQ must be in writing and may be faxed to 301-480-4226. Quotations
must be submitted in writing to the National Institute of Diabetes and
Digestive and Kidney Diseases 6705 Rockledge Drive, Building One, Room
8048, Bethesda, Maryland 20817-7973 Attention: Desiree Kelly. FAX
