C -- UPDATE MEDICAL GAS DISTRIBUTION SOL 637-27-00 DUE 021400 POC Dave Thomsett 828-299-5830 Provide A/E services to develop, design, prepare construction cost estimates, specifications and plans, and construction period services to overhaul and upgrade the medical gas distribution system in Building 47, located at the VA Medical Center, Asheville, NC. Building 47 is the main building providing inpatient and outpatient services at this medical center. Placed in service in 1968, the building is 321,366 GSF. The basement level houses support services, the first floor houses administrative, clinical, laboratory, and pharmacy functions. The second through fifth floors house inpatient wards and various clinics. There is a penthouse for building service equipment. A contract was recently awarded to add approximately 100,000 SF to the front of the building for outpatient ambulatory care services. Part of this ambulatory care project will renovate eighty percent of the first floor. The existing medical gas service to Building 47 includes medical air, oxygen, vacuum and Nitrous Oxide. There are over 1,200 outlets in the system. The existing master and area alarms were recently upgraded. A/E will be responsible for design services to: Replace existing, active medical gas outlings in Building 47; Install additional zone valves on the medical air and oxygen systems; Remove medical gas outlets on two wards which are no longer used for direct patient care; clean and purge all medical gas lines (O, A, V and N) of particulates; install area alarms on all nursing stations which are not presently outfitted; correct code violations as noted on recent medical gas inspection reports; update existing CAD drawings of the medical gas distribution system.
