Specialist, 402-221-3561 This query is to seek sources to conduct field
baseline inventories of vascular plants and vertebrate species in the
13-state region of the Midwest Region of National Park Service
including: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri,
Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and
Illinois. As part of the Natural Resource Challenge, parks and subject
matter experts will evaluate the adequacy of their existing data and
determine what baseline inventories (aquatic and terrestrial vascular
plants and vertebrate species) should be completed. The 32 parks
clustered into three eco-regions'. The Great Lakes eco-region includes
Isle Royale National Park (NP), Voyageurs NP, Apostle Islands National
Lakeshore (NL), Indiana Dunes NL, Sleeping Bear Dunes NL, Pictured
Rocks NL, Saint Croix National Scenic River, Mississippi River National
Recreation Area, Grand Portage National Monument. The Northern Great
Plains eco-region includes Theodore Roosevelt NP, Wind Cave NP,
Badlands NP, Knife River Indian Village, Fort Union Trading Post, Jewel
Cave NM, Mount Rushmore NP, Devil's Tower NM, Fort Laramie National
Historic Site (NHS), Agate Fossil Bed NM, Scotts Bluff NM, Niobrara
NSR, Missouri National Recreation River. The Mid-continent or Heartland
Region includes Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, Pipestone NM,
Effigy Mounds NM, Homestead NM, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve,
George Washington Carver NM, Herbert Hoover NHS, Cuyahoga Valley NRA,
Hopewell Culture National Historic Park, Lincoln Boyhood NM, Dayton
Aviation NHP, Hot Springs NP, Arkansas Post National Memorial, Buffalo
National River, Ozark National Scenic River, and Pea Ridge National
Military Park. Following the review of existing data, park service
personnel will prioritize the park s' inventory needs in the respective
networks. The baseline inventory of vascular plants and vertebrate
species will be used in developing the second phase of the Natural
Resource Challenge to establish an individualized vital signs'
monitoringprogram for each park. The extent of each park program will
depend on the resource issues affecting park resources. If this project
