COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 24,2000 PSA#2521JOINT FIELD TRIAL-6 FOR BIOLOGICAL POINT DETECTION The Joint Program
Office for Biological Defense (JPO-BD) is co-sponsoring JFT-6 for point
biological detection at Defenc Research Establishment Suffield in
Alberta, Canada. These outdoor field trials are scheduled to run from
28 August to 15 September 2000. Equipment will need to arrive
approximately one week prior to test commencement. It should also be
noted that JFT-6 standoff and JFT-6 laboratory for Biological Point
Detection will be conducted in July 2000 and January 2001 respectively.
Each JFT is announced separately. The intent of JFT-6 for point is to
assess candidate technologies for potential inclusion in programs such
as the Joint Biological Point Detection System (Block II). In
addition, Canada hopes to promote open testing and demonstration of
detection systems so that their government can more readily assess
potential technologies for future adoption. Trials will be blind and
will consist of a series of simulant and/or interferent aerosol cloud
releases. Devices will be evaluated for their ability to detect and/or
identify these clouds. Some devices may be able to perform more than
one function. JFT-6 for point technology has two objectives: 1) To
provide developers an opportunity to demonstrate their devices'
potential for inclusion in current and future biological detection
programs, and 2) To offer developers an opportunity to obtain unique
performance data that can be used to further their development work. To
be considered for participation, developers/sponsors must supply the
following information in writing no later than the close of business
March 3, 2000: (Space is limited. Submissions received after this date
will not be accepted.) A description of the device, its capabilities
and the technology it employs; all relevant test reports; how long the
item has been in development and/or production. Information must be
sent to the following address: JPO-BD, ATTN: SFAE-BD (Ms. Trudel), 5201
Leesburg Pike, Suite 1200, Falls Church, VA 22041-3203, Or email to:
trudeln@jpobd.osd.mil. As the co-sponsors of JFT-6 for point, DRES will
fully fund the test execution. Participants, however, are expected to
fund their own travel costs and accommodations. Participants are also
expected to fund their own development efforts or seek sponsorship from
an R&D government agency. All recipients of this announcement letter
are encouraged to share this information with other developers and/or
potential interested parties. All questions concerning JFT-6 should be
directed to the JPO-BD Test Manager, Ms. Nicole Trudel,
