LOCK REPLACEMENT PROJECT, LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY The work consists of
construction of a cellular sheet pile cofferdam for construction of a
new 1200-foot navigation lock at the McAlpine Locks and Dam in
Louisville, Kentucky. The work includes dewatering the cofferdam,
excavating the overburden within the cofferdam and demolishing portions
of existing lock walls. Construction of the cofferdam will require
in-the-wet demolition of existing concrete lock guidewalls. The
cofferdam construction will include placement of a stability berm, cell
dewatering wells and instrumentation for monitoring. The work includes
stabilizing portions of existing concrete lock walls by drilling and
placing high capacity structural anchors bonded to the rock foundation.
Placement of tremie concrete will also be required. Demolition within
the cofferdam will include removal and disposal of portions of two
existing locks. This demolition will include concrete lock walls,
sandstone masonry lock walls, metal miter gates, metal culvert valves,
metal emergency closure systems, miter gate and culvert valve
machinery, hydraulic and electric lines to machinery, concrete paving
and miscellaneous fill. Upon completion of the demolition, the
dewatered cofferdam will be turned over for use in construction of the
new lock. This is a Request for Proposal and offers will be evaluated
on the following technical basis, not necessarily in this order of
importance, (1) Past Performance/Experience; (2) Technical Approach;
(3) Project Management; (4) Subcontracting Plan; (5) Proposed Schedule
and Sequence of Work. NOTE: The Subcontracting Plan will be point
scored as an evaluation factor. The Price Proposal will be submitted
under a separate cover. The contract period will be 730 days. This
project will be available on approximately 14 FEB 2000 and will have a
45 day bidding period. There will be no charge for this solicitation
package and it will be available on CD ROM ONLY. Interested offerors
