E-MAIL: Cynthia Duncan, cynthia.duncan@bep.treas.gov. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is currently seeking sources for an alternate substrate for the printing of U.S. Currency. Specifically, the Bureau is interested in a substrate which will provide for improved durability of currency along with the ability to implement unique counterfeit deterrent features. In addition, the Bureau is seeking inks for use with an alternate substrate. The Bureau has a limited amount of press time available to support this endeavor. In an effort to enhance the testing and evaluation of alternate substrates, the Bureau is offering interested parties the opportunity to obtain samples of black intaglio currency ink produced by the Bureau's ink mill. The anticipated sample size is 10 pounds. This will allow interested parties the opportunity to use actual currency ink to print on their substrate and submit printed test samples to the Bureau for evaluation. For initial screening purposes, interested parties are requested to submit preliminary samples and/or brief technical descriptions (1-2 paragraphs) plus cost information for the purchase of larger test quantities to the BEP, Securities Technology Institute, Attn: Ted Strahan, 14th and C Sts, S.W.
