COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 2,2000 PSA#2528Commander (FCP), USCG MLC (Pacific), Finance Division, Coast Guard

DUE 020400 POC Contact Robert Townsend, Contracting Officer
510/437-3009 E-MAIL: click here to contact the Contracting Officer via,
rtownsend@d11.uscg.mil. This notice is to provide answers to vendor
questions about Request For Quotations DTCG89-00-Q-65D001. The due date
for quotes of 04 February 2000 is unchanged. Question 1: Is the
multiplexed data coming from the various remote location available into
1 physical interface and somehow tagged by means provided by the vendor
or the CG (as it could be expected in 'CAN over WAN' environment)?
Answer 1: No. Serial data streams from remote sites are sent through CG
telecomms system and then multiplexed into 1 physical interface
provided by the vendor into the PC at the OPCEN. Question 2: Is it
available in the form of multiple RS-232C ports present at some CG
provided device (one port by remote location) in such fashion that will
require a multiple serial port intelligent controller in the PC (i.e.
Digi International Intelligent Multiport Controller)? Answer 2: See
answer to Question 1. Question 3: Is it time de-multiplexed using a
standard Telco strategy, such as the many devised to convert a T1 (or
fractional T1) into up to 24 usable data and/or voice channels? Answer
3: No. See answer to Question 1. Question 4: Is it a multipoint X.25
based approach? Answer 4: No. Question 5: If any or none of the above
apply, can the vendor suggest (software and maybe hardware) approaches
which will enhance the response time of the overall system, increase
the through output, and minimize the 'network' latency, without any
cost increase? Answer 5: No. Must meet minimum requirements. Question
6: Could it be of interest to the CG, to design the overall system to
be able to use RS-232C now, and TCP/IP in the future while maintaining
backward compatibility, so it could be designed that way at once,
making future major changes in form, fit, or function, unnecessary?
Answer 6: No. Must meet minimum requirements. Posted 01/31/00
