94550 A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS
TO COMMERCIALIZE NOVEL APPROACH TO PRINTED WIRING BOARD MANUFACTURE
AND OTHER MULTILAYER ELECTROPLATING APPLICATIONS SOL 00-006 DUE 040100
POC Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization (925)423-3139 The
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the
University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of
Energy is seeking industrial partners to commercialize and license a
technology for varying the metal composition of electroplated layers
deposited from a single chemical bath, "The Technology." The Technology
uses a modulated plated technique allowing selection of either of two
metals contained in a single solution. The major benefits are: (1)
elimination of lead from operations traditionally employing lead
(significant environmental advantage), (2) increase in board
throughput, and (3) reduction in production time. In printed wiring
board applications, The Technology allows several steps -- deposition
of copper circuitry, plating of an etch resist layer, and possibly
deposition of a finish coat, to all be combined into one operation.
Potential applications of The Technology include: printed wiring board
industry, general electroplating process industry, and industries
using non-electronic applications which require deposition of at least
two different metallic layers. The Technology may also be used for
deposition of different metallic layers on food or material storage
containers, on automobile and aerospace parts, or on architectural
components. Companies interested in working with LLNL to commercialize
The Technology should provide a written statement of interest that
includes a description of corporate capability relevant to
commercialization of The Technology and basic corporate information.
Respondents are encouraged to provide ancillary documentation such as
annual reports, corporate resumes, and technical publications. THIS IS
NOT A PROCUREMENT. All Letters of Interest must be received within 60
days of this announcement. Please send Letters of Interest to Eddie
Scott, Business Development Specialist, Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Mail Stop L795, Livermore CA 94550-9234,
