Project work includes the construction of an artificial reef covering about 2.7 acres of ocean bottom, constructed about 1,200 feet offshore in 1-15 feet of water. It will be built of natural limestone or a combination of limestone and concrete using an estimated quantity of 10,500 tons. The limestone is sized between 2 and 5 feet in diameter. If concrete pieces are used, each piece shall have a minimum weight of 1 ton. The reef will contain no less than 50% (by weight) of natural limestone. The reef will be constructed in three strips parallel to the shore. A staging area is provided inside the inlet. Construction time is 135 calendar days. Magnitude of construction is between $500,000 to $1,000,000. Invitation for Bid will be issued on or about 3 March 2000 and open on or about 20 April 2000.
