A -- SYNTHESIS AND TESTING OF NONSTEROIDAL AND NONHORMONAL MALE CONTRACEPTIVE AGENTS!! SOL RFP NICHD-CRHB-2000-03 DUE 052400 POC Contact Mr. Robert Stallings, Contract Specialist, or Paul J. The Contraceptive Development Branch, Center for Population Research, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, has a requirement for the synthesis and testing of nonsteroidal and nonhormonal male contraceptive agents. The specific objectives of the project are the design, synthesis, and testing of nonsteroidal and nonhormonal male contraceptive agents which inhibit testicular sperm development, post-testicular sperm maturation and epididymal function. Such compounds should desirably be devoid of (or have minimal) ancillary, central nervous system, cardiovascular and other side effects. Organizations must have adequate facilities and capabilities to carry out the proposed synthetic chemical program. The Federal Government is prepared to test such compounds in several standard assays if the contractor is unable to perform such testing. Specifically excluded from this project are GnRH analogs; gossypol derivatives; steroidal agents; all alkylating agents including chlorohydrin, deoxychlorosugars, nitrogen mustards, ethyleneimines, and sulfonoxyalkanes; nonspecific antimetabolites; antimitotic agents; N-substituted diamines (such as Win. 13,099); nitroheterocyclic compounds and cytotoxic agents. Proposals to merely collect compounds from various sources and/or only perform biological assays will not be considered. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency. It is anticipated that three (3) cost-reimbursement incrementally funded type contracts will be awarded as a result of the RFP for a period of thirty-six (36) months each, beginning September 29, 2000. This announcement is not a request for proposals (RFP). RFP-NICHD-CRHB-2000-03 will be issued on or about February 24, 2000. Proposals will be due approximately 90 days thereafter.
