The United States Special Operations Command is seeking information on the current state of industry to meet the following requirement: Development and production of a Medium Data Rate Terminal and Antenna System capable of receiving and transmitting data at a minimum data rate of 256 KBS, and an objective data rate of T1. The system must provide wordwide coverage via the EHF Milstar System. The system must be compatible with existing Milstar terminals, secure and joint technical architecture (current version) compliant. The initial (prototype terminal) must be two man portable and smaller and lighter is desired. The objective antenna variants will include an airborne version, capable of mounting on the USAF C-17, C-5 and C-141; a man portable antenna; and a third version capable of mounting onboard naval craft is required. Smaller and lighter is desired for the antennas and the terminal. Height and weight of the antennas is a concern. The Government envisions evolutionary upgrades to both the antenna and terminal and as an objective the devices should not be dependent on each other. As a minimum, the airbone antenna should be capable of integration with the data bus on the C-17 or capable of achieving integration within a short period of time.
