The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is releasing a NASA Announcement of Opportunity (AO-00-OSS-01) entitled Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) Key Projects and Science Team. SIM is a new space mission for performing precise astrometric measurements of stars and other celestial objects. Science investigations using SIM are solicited both for key project investigations and for smaller investigations by Mission Scientists. NASA intends to select approximately 8 key project investigations and approximately eight investigations for Mission Scientists. The Principal Investigators of Key Project and the Mission Scientists will be members of the SIM Science Team. SIM is not an approved program. SIM is currently in Phase A (Concept Study) and will seek a new start in Fiscal Year 2002. The SIM launch is currently planned for 2006. Participation is open to all categories of organizations, foreign and domestic, including educational institutions, industry, nonprofit organizations, NASA centers, and other Government agencies. This solicitation will be open through May 26, 2000. Upon the release date, specific guidance for proposal preparation will be available via the World Wide Web site: http://spacescience.nasa.gov .
