NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for 1 each custom optical fiber which includes custom meodymium doped fibers, codoped with various codopants, which are fabricated by the aerosol doping method. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Hope Technolgies, the only known source that produces optical fiber by aerosol doping technique. This is critical for the development of fiber lasers for a project to test the effects of aerosol doping techniques. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on February 25, 2000. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
