65 -- BIFURCATED NEDLES FOR USE WITH SMALLPOX VACCINE SOL 2000-N-00016 POC Alan Rex Ellington, Contract Specialist, Construction, Facilities, Equipment and Commodities Section, (770) 488-2615, Mailstop K71 Bifurcated Needles -- The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) intends to negotiate a contract for production of fifteen million four hundred thousand 15,400,000) bifurcated needles for use with existing government owned Smallpox vaccine being held in stockpile status. The needles must be approved and licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use with Dryvax vaccine (Smallpox vaccine dried calf lymph type) manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories. The needles must be sterilized and packaged for storage in accordance with FDA requirements . The contractor shall complete production within the shortest time possible after contract award. The contractor shall retain these fifteen million four hundred thousand (15,400,000) needles in storage for a one year period, with contract options for storage of the needles for four additional one year periods. Needles held in storage by the contractor shall be considered a part of CDC's Smallpox vaccine stockpile and shall be immediately available for packaging with the Dryvax vaccine and Dryvax diluent. They may also be delivered to one or more sites as required and as directed by CDC during the contract period of performance. Solicitation issue date on or about 3/2/00.
