and Alcoholism (NIAAA) intends to negotiate with LABS of Virginia,
Incorporated, for a three year contract to study genetic and
biochemical determinants of excessive and impulsive aggression in
free-ranging juvenile and adolescent and young adult male and female
nonhuman primates. The proposed procurement will continue
identification and active maintenance of a homogenous population of
aggressive juvenile rhesus monkeys, to be freely selected by the
Laboratory of Clinical Studies -- Primate Section, NIAAA. Biological
samples will be collected consisting of repeated CSF samples to assay
for neurotransmitter activity, blood samples to assay for hormone
concentrations, skin biopsy samples to harvest for DNA to perform
molecular genetic analyses, behavioral samples consisting of frequency
and duration of social interactions, aggression, risk taking, social
dominance, troop residence, and automated computerized collection of
individual activity rates and sleep patterns in a sample of
free-ranging juvenile, adolescent, and young adult rhesus macaques.
